Students, parents and teachers of Generations Montessori School in Watkinsville met on Oct. 3 to walk to school as a group in observance of International Walk to School Day.

Students of Generations Montessori School took a field trip of sorts last Wednesday: they walked to school.

The children, along with parents and teachers, met at one student's home on South Main Street and walked a half mile to the building on School Street. Watkinsville Police Chief O'Dillon served as the crossing guard.

Lead teacher Heather Weisenborn said the children really enjoyed the walk, which was held in conjunction with International Walk to School Day.

According to www.walkbiketoschool.org, Walk to School Day was first observed in 1997 thanks to Partnership for a Walkable America and became an international event in 2000.
