Crime Report: Man Tells Deputies He Was Knocked Out and Robbed

The following information was gathered from Oconee County Sheriff's Office reports and highlights incidents reported Feb. 3 - Feb. 5.

Robbery: A man told deputies he had been drinking at his Pinewood Estates South mobile home park trailer around 2 a.m. on Feb. 5 when two females knocked on his door. According to an incident report, the victim said he let the two women inside but a man also entered and hit him in the head, knocking him out for about 40 minutes. 

When he awoke, the victim said the suspects were gone and had robbed him of about $5,600 cash.  At the time, the he was unsure of where he had left the money before it was taken and was unable to give a detailed description of the suspects.  Deputies did recover about $600 found in the driveway.

The case was turned over to investigators.

Shoplifting: store security officers told deputies on Feb. 3 they had video surveillance of a man attempting to exit through the garden center while carrying a BB gun and CO2 cartridges that had not been purchased.  In the man's pockets, deputies say they found jewelry and additional COS cartridges.  The man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting.

Theft: On Feb. 4, A resident of the 5400 block of Hog Mountain Road reported the theft of a green Werner 6-foot stepladder and a blue Werner 8-foot stepladder.  The shed is under construction and there was no door to secure the ladders.  The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between Jan. 30 and Feb. 4.

Shoplifting: Walmart reported a man attempted to take $149.66 worth of items on Feb. 3.  A man was charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting.

Enter Auto: A Watkinsville man reported someone entered his vehicle o Feb. 1 while it was parked at a Flat Rock Road residence. Two cell phones and a firearm were taken. The value of the items taken is $685.

Identity Theft: A Bishop man told deputies on Feb.3 that he received a bill in the amount of $818.67 from a phone company for an overdue account that he says he never opened.

Simple Battery: Deputies were dispatched to the parking lot of on Feb. 3 about 10:45 a.m. in response to a domestic dispute.  A male suspect said he was having a verbal argument with his fiancée over GPS directions and he grabbed her arm to turn her around during the argument. The victim gave a similar account. The man was arrested and charged with simple assault.

Harassment: On Feb. 3, an Oconee County woman reported having received about 10 calls from a unknown caller claiming she had won $1,000,000 and a new car and who said he worked for a company selling elderly assistance items.  The victim told deputies she and her home health care nurse both asked the caller to stop calling. 

The man wanted the victim to give him money for taxes on the winnings or buy something and said he could come to her home to pick up the money. 

At the victim's request, the deputy says he called the number and left a message asking the caller to contact the Sheriff's Office to confirm his employment and why he was repeatedly contacting the victim, but there hasn't been a response.

Burglary:  On Feb. 3, a man told deputies he had been working with a bank to keep a residence in the 2700 block of Old Farmington Road presentable for sale after foreclosure.  The man found side glass door had been shattered, several holes had been knocked in the walls in several rooms and the light fixtures had been destroyed.  Windows in front bedroom  had also been broken and the back door had been kicked open.  Nothing known was missing at time of the report.  It is believed the burglary happened sometime between Jan 1 and Feb. 3. The report noted an air conditioning unit had been taken in a separate incident.
