Oconee County Plans to Shut Off Water and Sewer to Mobile Home Park

Residents might lose their water and sewer service in January; the county says the park's owner failed to pay the more than $150,000 in utility fees.

officials released plans Friday to shut off water and sewer service to residents living in a mobile home park off Old Epps Bridge Road after the owner of the property stopped paying for the service, according to a county press release.

The property owner, Georgia General Kipling Land, LLC, ceased payment for water and sewer in August 2010, but still collected payment from residents of the Pinewoods Estates South mobile home park, according to officials. Now the company owes more than $150,000 to the county, officials say.

Oconee County says it can't afford to provide the free utility service to the mobile home park, which contains 112 lots. The county says it filed suit against the owner in April and intends to terminate water and sewer for residents by Jan. 13, 2012, if payment isn't made.

Oconee County has scheduled a hearing to discuss the shutoff with the owner at 10 a.m on Thursday.

Meanwhile, officials were notifying residents and will hold meetings to address questions or concerns at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 and Dec. 12 at the .
