Collectable Coins Stolen From Watkinsville Business Pawned, Recovered

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

On Friday, Watkinsville Police arrested Talmadge Pat Hanley, 55, of Hog Mountain Road, and charged him with two counts of felony theft by shoplifting, according to Chief Lee O'Dillon's weekly news release.

The charges resulted from an incident last Wednesday, and another incident on Friday, where several collectable coins, valued at $2,500, were taken from Attic Treasures. Hanley is accused of selling the coins at area jewelry stores, O'Dillon wrote.

Police were able to recover all of the stolen coins.

In the news release, O'Dillon also noted the following incidents:

  • At 7:05 Wednesday morning, a large deer ran into the path of a westbound 2013 Kia Sorento on Experiment Station Road near VFW Drive. The 62-year-old driver was not injured and only minor damage was done to the car.
  • A 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer struck the back of a 2012 Subaru Outback forcing it into the rear of a 2003 Buick Park Avenue on Thursday at 5:38 p.m. The accident happened on Experiment Station Road at North Main Street. One person was slightly injured. A 24-year-old Watkinsville woman was charged with following too closely.
  • At 7:45 a.m. Friday, a 1999 GMC Sierra pulled from a private driveway on Cedar Drive into the side of a 2009 bus.  No one was injured. An Athens man, 35, was charged with failure to yeild to the right of way.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 32 calls within city limits between Nov. 12-18, 2012.
