Burglar Snatches Cash Drawer from Watkinsville Business

Police responded to a burglar alarm and found a window had been smashed at Watkinsville Service Center.

Watkinsville Police last Thursday night shortly after 11 p.m. responded to a burglar alarm at Watkinsville Service Center located 1326 Greensboro Highway. When they arrived, officers saw that a window had been smashed, but the intruder had already fled, according to Chief Lee O'Dillon.

The business owner met officers at the scene and determined that a change drawer containing about $30 was taken, O'Dillon noted in a news release.

Police dusted the entry area for fingerprints and are reviewing security camera footage from other businesses in the area, he said.

In other news, on Tuesday, March 19 at 9:30 a.m., a 1995 BMW 325-I pulled into the path of a northbound 1999 Toyota 4-Runner on Ga.  Highway 15 near J&B Shell. Neither driver was injured and damage was minor. An 85-year-old Athens man was charged with failure to yield to the right of way.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 30 calls within city limits between March 18-24, 2013.
