Martha Brodrick, a retired principal of Colham Ferry Elementary School who served for more than a decade, has died at the age of 65 following a short battle with cancer, according to The Oconee Enterprise.
Oconee County Schools Superintendent John Jackson released the following statement Friday on the passing of Martha Brodrick:
We are saddened by the passing of Martha Brodrick, a retired OCS administrator. Many of our lives were touched by her work--students, parents, co-workers, and community members. Martha was such a part of the fabric of our community and she will be missed.
Even after retirement from the school system as Principal of Colham Ferry Elementary School, Martha continued to serve as a mentor to our new and aspiring administrators, as well as filling short-term administrative positions as Principal at Oconee County Middle School and Malcom Bridge Middle School.
She had a vast reservoir of knowledge and wisdom about teaching, learning and caring for students that was admired and respected by many.
Thank you, Brodrick family, for sharing her with us.
Visitation will take place from 5-8 p.m. at Lord and Stephens West, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, on Sunday, Jan. 8.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9 at Watkinsville First United Methodist Church.
