Bell Announces Bid for State House

College educator Sarah Bell is the third candidate to throw her hat into the ring for the vacant House District 113 seat.

adjunct professor Sarah Bell said Tuesday that she is vying for the House District 113 seat in Georgia.  Rep. Hank Huckaby resigned in April to become the of the University System of Georgia.

"I think that the time is right," Bell said. "I've been encouraged by many friends and state leaders, and I plan to represent genuine conservative values."

An American Red Cross volunteer for 22 years, Bell said service is important to her.

"It's not about politics, it's about public service," she said.

Bell said she sees a great need for improvement in the education system, and would like to see lower taxes and smaller government at every level.

Bell has lived in Oconee county since 1991 and been a resident of the district since 1978. She lost a bid for chairman of the board of commissioners to Melvin Davis in 2008 by 100 votes.  Amid speculation, Davis, who has been named president of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, a few weeks ago that he would not be running for the House seat.

Also in the race are Chuck Williams, former president of , and attorney Alan Alexander, the Oconee Enterprise reported last week.

for the June 21 will take place from May 16 to 18.   Voters must be registered by May 23 in order to cast a ballot.

All of Oconee, Southern Clarke, and portions of Oglethorpe and Morgan counties make up House District 113.
