An Athens woman was booked into the Oconee County Jail Thursday on charges stemming from an investigation into the theft of an 87-year-old woman's wallet and fraudulent use of the victim's credit cards.

Nancy C. Crawford, 61, of Billups Street in Athens, is charged with three counts of financial transaction card fraud and one count of identity fraud, according to a news release. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

On Sept. 5, the victim was shopping at Kroger when her wallet was taken from her purse.  Her credit cards were then used at Lowe's and Walmart to make $4,000 worth of purchases.

The Sheriff's Office Wednesday released to the public and surrounding law enforcement agencies images of two suspects and a vehicle captured on surveillance tapes.

An Athens-Clarke County Police detective recognized Crawford from a previous contact, and warrants were obtained for her arrest, the news release stated.

Authorities continue to search for the male suspect, who has yet to be identified.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to please contact Investigator Dave Stauffacher by email at dstauffacher@oconeesheriff.org or by calling 706-769-3945.

Maybe since she committed her crime in Oconee County she will get convicted and get a well deserved harsh sentence. Sheriff Berry has been good about sending the message that we don't put up with that sort of behavior here.
They ought to let the 87 year old woman she ripped off hit her in the head repeatedly with her purse.
