Athens Academy Arranges for VoiceQuilt to Unite Messages of Support for Kajal Patel

The honor roll student underwent a bone marrow transplant Wednesday.

Kajal Patel, a student of Athens Academy who's been suffering most of her life from an immune disorder, received a bone marrow transplant on Wednesday, according to Be A Hero For Kajal.

"Thank you so much for all prayers and best wishes. Kajal is doing great thanks to all of her well wishers," her mother, Tina, wrote on the Facebook page created to provide family and friends with updates about the teen's health.  "Our whole family appreciates everyone's support and love!"

Thousands of community members gave swab samples last March during a  Marrow-Thon in hopes of finding matches for Kajal.  The effort paid off in a major way, yielding several matches and breaking a world record for new bone marrow registered donors collected during a 24-hour period.

If you'd like to send Kajal messages of support, Athens Academy has set up a VoiceQuilt.  Please follow these instructions that appear on the Be A Hero For Kajal Facebook page:

1. Call 1-877-OurQuilt (1-877-687-7845)

2. When asked for your invitation number, enter 191034

3. Leave your message, just as if you were leaving a voicemail
Hang up to save it, or press # for options (1 Save; 2 Listen; 3 Re-record)

For best recording results, use a traditional phone – not a cell or cordless phone. If you have two or more callers, use a speaker phone. For message ideas, check out these Thought Starters.
