Athens Regional Medical Center congratulates Dr. Ruby Cheves who was named the 2012 National Mother of the Year by by American Mothers, Inc. (AMI).

Cheves was awarded the Mother of the Year title at the American Mothers Annual Convention in Washington D.C., on May 5.

AMI is a nonprofit organization for women and men who recognize the important role of motherhood through educational programs and community outreach.

Since 1935, the American Mothers Committee has given a Mother of the Year award to a mom who embodies the highest qualities of motherhood.

Cheves attended Northeast Louisiana State University Medical Center and now practices in the Midwifery Clinic at Athens Regional and serves as the medical director.
